Some sessions come together so naturally that it feels like they were always meant to happen. George and Rachel’s Caddo Lake engagement photos were exactly that.
Rachel actually found me through one of my past clients, which is always one of the biggest compliments I can receive. When she reached out, she told me she wanted her engagement photos to feel romantic, nostalgic, and cinematic—like stills from a story. She had come across my Charleston bridal session (images located here) at Cypress Gardens and immediately connected with the mossy, dreamy atmosphere. The challenge? Finding a Texas location that could capture that same feeling. Thankfully, Caddo Lake exists.
The moment Rachel described her vision, I thought of the towering cypress trees, the still water, and the curtains of Spanish moss hanging from every direction. It has the same quiet, almost otherworldly feeling that makes Cypress Gardens so beautiful.

One of my favorite parts of the planning process is helping couples find a location that feels like an extension of their story. Rachel wasn’t looking for trendy poses or a location everyone else had used. She wanted a setting that created a feeling.
The day itself could not have worked out better. We were greeted with overcast skies and mild spring temperatures, which photographers secretly love far more than we let on. While everyone dreams of a dramatic sunset, soft cloud cover creates beautiful, even light.
The landscape seemed to encourage their natural connection and create space for them to exist together without feeling rushed.

I think that’s what I love most about engagement sessions like this. Yes, they’re about creating beautiful photographs. But they’re also about giving couples a chance to pause.
Wedding planning can quickly become a series of decisions, timelines, spreadsheets, and emails. There are vendors to book, details to finalize, and approximately seventeen thousand opinions floating around at any given moment.
Somewhere in the middle of all that, it’s easy to forget that the entire reason for the celebration is the relationship itself. Sessions like George and Rachel’s create room to step away from the noise, slow down, notice each other, and remember what all of this is really about.
George and Rachel trusted me with this chapter of their story, and documenting it was such a gift. Their session is a reminder that sometimes the best shots are simply two people, sitting together in a canoe, surrounded by still water and moss-covered trees, completely content to be exactly where they are.
