Cortlyn and Doug’s Marland Mansion wedding was rooted in a clear vision—old money, romantic, and timeless. Sybree, their planner, understood that immediately, which is exactly why she sent them my way. She knew the vibe they were after. That kind of alignment matters more than people realize. When everyone is on the same page from the beginning, the day unfolds more seamlessly.
Marland Mansion did what it does best, carrying the entire aesthetic. The hand-painted ceilings, archways, black-and-white floors… this place doesn’t need help, and thankfully, Cortlyn knew that. She kept the decor minimal on purpose because adding more would have taken away from what was already there. And she was right. It was simple, which, let’s be honest, is not always the easiest route when planning a wedding. But it paid off. The space, people, and pacing of the day all worked together, and that’s what made it feel timeless.

The details followed that same mindset. Cortlyn brought in swans as a subtle theme, which showed up in the ceremony vases and the seating chart/name cards. It was just enough to feel personal and current, without pulling focus from everything else. Florals stayed in the same lane—soft whites, layered textures, a bit of greenery. They worked with the space, and the arrangements framed moments, allowing the architecture and natural light to keep doing what they do best. Everything came back to that “less, but better” approach. She chose a handful of details that added personality without shifting the tone.

Everything lined up this day. Good weather (which we never take for granted), a calm pace, and a team that knew what they were doing. Cortlyn and Doug carried the whole day calmly, just present with each other and the people around them. Those are always the moments I pay the most attention to. The couple, space, details, and team all worked together. And that’s usually the difference between a day that looks good and a day that actually feels good. This one did both.
