While visiting Salt Lake City, I was honored to shoot Mak and Harrison’s studio engagement photos in Noire Noir, a gorgeous, all-white industrial studio. These two are seriously the sweetest, and we wanted their session to have a clean and modern vibe. The studio’s sleek, minimalist look gave us the perfect backdrop, so I had them in black and gray outfits to make them pop against the white walls. It was simple, stylish, and honestly, just so much fun!
We chose a studio for Mak and Harrison’s engagement photos mainly because the mid-day Utah sun in September is no joke. With no clouds in sight on that beautiful day, the studio became our haven of ideal lighting, allowing us to dodge the harsh rays but still utilize it in creative ways indoors. Plus, the flexibility of a studio means we could play with unique setups and props that reflected their personalities. I want to emphasize the intimacy of being in a cozy studio. You can focus on each other without the distractions of the outdoors and people who may be near—and instead, be comfortable in a controlled environment!

I love studio sessions like Mak and Harrison’s because you get all the perks without the stress of unpredictable weather. Want that clean, monochromatic vibe or a chic black-and-white gallery? The studio’s got you covered. Whether it’s 100 degrees, windy, or pouring rain outside, you’re inside with perfect lighting and AC, avoiding the dreaded “Do we need to reschedule?” conversation. Plus, the variety of backdrops makes it easy to switch up the mood. We got to play around with different setups, capturing everything from sweet and intimate moments, like when they were pretending to take photos of each other, to those effortlessly chill editorial shots!
