Eloping is like saying, “Forget the big wedding fuss; let’s just run away together and have our own adventure!” Don’t get me wrong, I love a good wedding shebang, but eloping is becoming the cool kid on the block, especially in places like Oklahoma. And speaking of cool, I think Broken Bow is one of the coolest places to elope in Oklahoma without all the stress. Rachel and Jay decided to elope in style—already legally hitched at the courthouse, they spent a whole weekend just the two of them doing all their favorite things. There were no guest lists, no awkward small talk, just pure fun and love in the heart of nature. Eloping can truly be this simple and sweet.
This little town in Oklahoma is a gem, with lush forests, sparkling lakes, and jaw-dropping views. What’s even better? It’s super easy to get to from major cities in Oklahoma so that you can escape the hustle and bustle without too much hassle. The options are endless when it comes to accommodation- from cozy cabins to unique rentals that’ll make you feel like you’re in a different world. Stunning scenery, unlimited lodging options, and easy accessibility are just a few things that make Broken Bow a great elopement location.
Rachel and Jay spent the whole weekend doing their favorite things together, like getting ready side-by-side, making their bouquet and boutonniere, and writing personal vows. Rachel didn’t have any specific requests for the location, just a beautiful spot at sunset to exchange their promises. And since I’m familiar with the area, she left it up to me to choose!
The ultimate elopement spot for adventurous couples! You’ll find clear lakes with clean mountain water, thick foliage, and tons to do during your wedding weekend. This place is super accessible from major Oklahoma cities. Plus, there are many lodging options, from comfy cabins to unique rentals, so you can kick back and relax. Beavers Bend is the perfect mix of romance and adventure, with plenty of opportunities for s’mores and restful evenings by the fire.
Picture this: you’re standing next to a waterfall, and instead of stressing about seating charts or which cousin will cause drama, you’re saying your vows with the sound of rushing water in the background. Natural Falls State Park is a stunning backdrop and a peaceful, gorgeous spot where you’ll feel like you’re in your own little world.
You and your person can be tucked away by this beautiful river in a cozy little cabin. There are no distractions, no loud wedding music, just the sound of the water flowing. It’s a “let’s run away and get married” vibe but with way better scenery. Glover River has a peaceful, off-the-grid charm where you can focus on each other—and maybe even sneak in a nap after the ceremony. It’s a great spot to keep things low-key, romantic, and totally you. Plus, who doesn’t love a cabin getaway?
Okay, if you’re dreaming of a fall elopement where the trees look on fire (in the best way), the Talimena Scenic Route is your spot to elope in Oklahoma. A little way from Broken Bow, you’ll be surrounded by mountains drenched in reds, oranges, and yellows, making it feel like you’re inside a painting. The views? Insane. Seriously, Google it.
Before you start envisioning your dream elopement, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, make sure you check the park regulations and secure the necessary permits. Don’t worry—it’s not as complicated as it sounds—just give the park office a call, and they’ll walk you through it. You can also contact the Hochatown Chamber of Commerce—they’re helpful for local info.
Next, consider the best time of year to elope in Oklahoma. Spring and fall bring mild temps and killer scenery, while winter adds a cozy vibe with the chance of snow. Summer is incredible for lake adventures—just be ready for the heat. This elopement took place on a warm, early May day. Rachel even carried a little portable fan because it was pretty hot and humid. Take note of that if you’re not a fan of the heat. It gets hot here even in May!
The fun part is the accommodations and vendors! Broken Bow has many amazing cabin rentals and unique lodging options, so you can find the perfect spot to call home during your elopement weekend. As a seasoned Oklahoma wedding and elopement photographer, I can help with all the permit and planning details; just give me a holler!
You’re hitched! Now it’s time to celebrate! Why not hit the trails for some hiking? There are tons of scenic paths just waiting for you to explore. If you’re feeling a little more laid-back, grab a fishing pole! Fly fishing is a big deal around here. And don’t forget to check out the local attractions, lots of good local food and shopping in town, and other outdoor activities like boating, kayaking, biking, swimming, etc.
Turning your elopement into a mini-honeymoon is the way to go! You can make it a weekend to remember by snuggling up in a cozy cabin or enjoying a romantic picnic by the lake. You can keep the ceremony intimate—no need for a guest list if you want that “just us” vibe. Don’t overlook personalizing your vows by throwing in a little humor or inside jokes. Embrace the spontaneity! If you feel like dancing in the rain or taking a detour for ice cream, do it! This is your day, so make it as fun and authentic as possible. Happy eloping!
